About 10 years ago, Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline company completed a renovation and upgrade
for the "Big Inch" and "Little Inch" pipelines, built in 1942 during WWII to transport crude oil from
East Texas to East Coast refineries.  (German U-boats then infested the US coastal waters.)

In 1947, these pipelines (24" & 20") were converted to natural gas service.

An informative article, "Portable Trailer Flares Simplify Pipeline Repair" by Mr. Leo Hughes, general manager
(retired) of Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline's operations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and West Virginia,
appeared in Pipeline & Gas Journal September 1992 issue.

The article was also translated into Spanish for the 1995 natural gas environmental/safety conference in the
gas production fields of Maturin, Venezuela.  Venezuela had recently experienced a very deadly pipeline accident.
